DAZED KOREA : Kwon Ji Yong

Leader
I sometimes think about the future that I am no longer a Musician. If that time comes, I would like to support fellow artists' works. Within BigBang, we often discuss about making things that are actually valuable, and not only focus too much on money. It's not about making our own company. It is about supporting younger musicians, actors, and artists. I'll be 30 years old next year. It is time for me to think about our future and start taking the necessary steps towards that goal.

Musicians From The Past
I am extremely proud of Korean music, and musicians. I knew I wanted to be a singer/musician since I was a part of Junior Roo'ra. The people who made me want to be a musician were my seniors, in the other words, musicians from the past. I was born in the 80s, so I was exposed to all kinds of music which people from the 90s were not exposed to. I listened to songs by Cho Yongpil, along with songs that were even older than that. The interesting thing is, that their music, videos, and stages are all better sleeker than what is being produced these days. Our members pledged to be the musicians that hear things like, "How did they manage to do that all those years ago?" after 10, 20, or even 30 years latter. BigBang's music genre might seem like a mishmash of different things, but I'm sure there is a Korean nature in the heart of our music. Being Korean is one of our core mottos.

Travel
I might seem like a guy who goes to busy places filled with people, but this can't be further from the truth. I actually want to live in a uninhibited island when I grow old. I like traveling alone, and prefer being in a quite place. It has been a while since I went on a travel due to my busy schedule.

My Childhood Photos
My childhood was when I was most innocent and pure, so when I stare at photos of those times and reminisce on what it was like, I feel exuberant for no reason. The memory has mostly faded, but the child in those photos looks so much loved.

+82
+82 is my 'crew'. We created +82 with people that grew up together. We all do different things such as being a stylist, photographer, DJ, designer, or a model. We are all Koreans who work abroad. The name +82 is actually Korea's international dial-code. We created this group to just have fun, but after having parties in Paris, Japan, Jeju island, and Seoul, we started getting collaboration deals from brands. We already collaborated with Galerie Perrotin, and more interesting projects will soon follow. +82 is not a company. This is just a group of friends who help each other, and find new talents. I look forward to growing this group and show the world that such movements exist in Korea.

SNS
It is hard to meet anyone who doesn't use SNS such as Twitter, Instagram, Weibo, and Snapchat. At first, I used SNS to connect with my fans. I don't appear on Tv that often, and spend so much of my time abroad. I mostly appear in front of my fans through tours and concerts, which are pretty limited. SNS was the way for me to tell people where I am, and what I am doing. Seeing people's reactions through SNS is becoming really fun these days. Using SNS is now a huge part of my hobbies.

10th Anniversary
I get lots of questions related to this. Surprisingly, I don't have any special feelings toward our anniversary. People around us are the ones who actually care. They say to us "it's your 10 years anniversary. you guys should celebrate". However, I don't just want to just 'celebrate' our anniversary. I want to think deeply about what it means, and try to give back to our fans who have loved us for such a long time. This is why we created a movie , exhibitions, and books. We don't want celebrate this amongst ourselves. We want to share this moment with others, and remember it that way. Personally , rather than having thought like "Wow! it's been 10 years", I have worrying thoughts such as "How are we going to produce our next album? How are we going to spend the next 10 years?"
